Perched on top of a lush, panoramic mountain located just two miles from downtown Highlands, lies the premier, gated community of Highgate. With established values and thoughtful restrictions, this private haven is reminiscent of mountain communities built in the Adirondacks during the middle of the 20th century.
The small gatehouse at the entrance of Highgate exemplifies the style and architecture that sets the tone for unsurpassed mountain elegance in all Highgate construction. Metal, shake or architectural shingle roofs; bark, stone, cedar shake, board and batten, or rough-sawn clapboard siding; and true divided lights on windows and doors will be materials used throughout.
Two sections have been established - Grayrocks and The Hemlocks. In both of these areas the developer first selected the home sites, then met with engineers to survey roads and lots. Views, topography, natural screening and native plant material were determining factors in locating home sites. Trees and plants have been relocated if necessary and every effort has been made to preserve and enhance the natural landscape.
A limited number of home sites are still available in a price range from $235,000 to $450,000. Most are view lots, including one in the Grayrocks at the top of the mountain and one is in the beautiful Hemlock section of Highgate.
Architectural Guidelines have been adopted by the Highgate Property Owners Association to ensure an attractive, harmonious residential mountain community with emphasis on sensitivity to the setting's natural beauty.
