Located just over 3 miles from Highlands on the road to Cashiers, is the medical campus of the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital and Fidelia Eckerd Living Center.   The 24 bed acute care hospital, the 80 bed nursing facility and two medical office buildings have been constructed to accommodate the needs of the ever growing year round population plus the summer residents and visitors to our area.

In the acute care hospital, all patient’s rooms are private and feature state of the art electronic technology, including digital charting and record keeping, computerized bar coding for all medications and all new cardiac monitoring equipment.     Two dozen board certified members of the hospital’s medical staff serve the area on a full time or regular visiting basis including primary care physicians and a range of specialists. 

The Highlands Cashiers Hospital is affiliated with Mission Hospital System in Asheville and is fully accredited by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations.   

The Fidelia Eckerd Living Center, an integral part of the hospital, is also fully accredited, making it one of only 15 percent of nursing facilities nationwide to earn that distinction.  It offers long term care in an “Eden Alternative” environment, which seeks to create a truly human community for seniors.
